Hello everyone! Welcome to my first blog post! Let me tell you a little bit about myself. I have a lot to say but I will keep it short for now so we have more to talk about later!
My name is Allison Emily Kempe and I was born on September 13th 1995 in Maryland. I have the common but not well known genetic and sometimes hereditary disorder Neurofibromatosis I have two loving parents a brother and a sister. My Dad and big sister both have neurofibromatosis type 1 as well, so growing up, it was normal to have spots and go to the doctors a bunch! My Dad inherited NF from his mom but growing up they never used the word Neurofibromatosis. (More on my dads story later). My Dad really found out about NF after he married my mom and they went to a genetic counselor.
My sister was 3 months old when she began to show café-au-lait spots and was diagnosed with NF. When I was born I had the spots so they knew right away that I had NF and diagnosed me right away.
Growing up I was never ashamed of my NF and was lucky enough not to be made fun of very much. Growing up in a family where others had it and it was normal and I was told that I could do anything, and that NF didn't change anything, really made a difference in my life. There are so many things that have happened throughout my life some related to NF and some without. I cant wait to tell you all about it!
So remember, having NF or any medical disorder should not stop you from following your dream.
Until we speak again
Allison Kempe
